As a small independent consultancy we pride ourselves on building personal relationships and our bespoke, adaptable approach tailored to the individual needs of each project.

Our team

Joanna Burton IHBC MRTPI

Director (Founder)

Jo has over 15 years' experience working in heritage planning across both the public and private sectors based in the eastern region. She started her career in the planning and development team at English Heritage (now Historic England), before moving on to specialist heritage planning consultancy Beacon Planning (since acquired by Turley) and more recently establishing and leading a national heritage team at multi-disciplinary consultancy Barton Willmore (now Stantec).

Jo founded JB Heritage in late 2020 to offer personal, independent heritage advice. She has been a full member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation since 2014 and is also a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Jo has recently become a trustee of the East of England Building Preservation Trust and is a member of the Uttlesford and Essex Design Quality Review Panels.

Jenni Mason IHBC

Director

Jenni joined JB Heritage from Turley where she was a Director in the Heritage & Townscape service. Jenni began her heritage career two decades ago' at Cambridge City Council before joining a specialist heritage planning consultancy based in the East of England. She brings this public and private sector experience to JB Heritage, offering clients a personal, flexible service that is bespoke to individual needs.

Having been based professionally in Cambridge throughout this time, Jenni has worked across most of the local authorities in the eastern region, and many of those in the home counties and London boroughs.

Jenni holds full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.

Emma Healey IHBC RTPIAssoc

Senior Consultant

Emma has over 6 years’ experience in the private sector with previous roles at Barton Willmore, Stantec and Cheffins, working on a variety of heritage and planning projects including detailed planning and listed building consents, environmental impact assessments, change of use applications and conservation management plans. She provides specialist heritage advice to help effectively manage change in the historic environment.

Emma is a full member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and an Associate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Emma also has a keen interest in sustainability and holds a Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency of Older & Traditional Buildings (ABBE).
